 Fowler Schoolhouse

The Fowler School

The Fowler School was built in 1882 on the corner of Burt and Chapin Roads in Marion Township of Saginaw County, Michigan.  Children from first grade through the eighth were taught in this one-room school by a single teacher.  In 1943 the residents of Marion Township thought the doors of the Fowler School had closed for the last time, but in 1988 the Saginaw Intermediate School District purchased the school building from Mr. and Mrs. Wilmar Lacker and had it moved to the present site at The Hartley Outdoor Education Centerīs Murphy Farm. Today the Fowler School is a fully restored and registered Michigan Historic Site.

A visit to the Fowler One-Room Schoolhouse is an experience your students will never forget.  Students ( third and fourth graders ) and teachers re-enact a "typical" day (approximately 9am-2pm) together in a late 19th Century schoolhouse complete with lessons from the past including penmanship, the 3 Rīs, recitations and more.  Limit one classroom per session.  The cost is $2 per student.  Call (517) 865-6295 during regular business hours to make reservations.

A One-Room School Mini-Trip is also available that lasts 90 minutes instead of an entire school day.
