Archaeology
Over the years several archaeological sites have been discovered on the Hartley Property. Arthur Graves, a well-known amateur archaeologist from Saginaw, helped establish the first archaeological course at Hartley in 1975. Thus far, a turn of the century dumpsite and several prehistoric Native American clusters has been excavated.
Many of these sites have turned up invaluable artifacts with the current excavation centered on the site of an early 20th Century boarding house that was associated with the Robert Gage Coal Mine #8. Portions of this site are rich with artifacts with students finding something new almost every time.
Join us as we embark on an exciting archaeological adventure with our class designed to uncover the mysteries of the past! In this hands-on exploration, young scholars will become junior archaeologists, delving into the fascinating world they won't soon forget.
