The Confidence Course at the Hartley Outdoor Education Center consists of activities that require mental and physical skills. Several of these activities involve problem-solving situations, which are modifications of Outward Bound Initiative Tests.
These carefully designed problems force the students into working as a group to cooperatively decide on a solution and then to carry out their plan as quickly and efficiently as possible. As a result, the student’s self-confidence and pride is bolstered upon the successful completion of an activity, or after the follow-up discussion of an activity if it is not successfully completed.
A combination of active participation, and discussion, is used to enhance confidence, increase self-esteem, develop community, and create decision-making opportunities in a fun and exciting atmosphere.
