Learning Outcomes
From the time when prehistoric man camped on the shores of glacial lakes to the colorful days of the lucrative fur trade and even to the present age, Native Americans have greatly influenced our society.  What must life have been like for the Native American’s living here in the Saginaw Valley? Hartley Outdoor Education Center's goal is to acquaint students with the life of the Saginaw Valley Native American and to allow them to first-hand experience to many components of their day-to-day life.

Writing Prompts
Opinion(Standard W.1): Which Native American region is your favorite? Give reasons to support your opinion. 

Narrative(Standard W.3)Native Americans often told legends to explain things they saw in nature. Write your own legend about why an animal looks the way it does or about the different seasons.

Outside Learning/Exploration Opportunity: With an adult, take a hike at a local park. Look for items in nature that can be used as a bead, like acorns. With an adult’s permission, collect the items and make a necklace with your newfound items.
